Sri Lanka, May 31 -- United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday (29) said that the party secured 450,000 votes in the recent Local Government Election, crediting the efforts of a specially appointed campaign committee.
Speaking at a gathering held at the party's headquarters, Sirikotha, Wickremesinghe praised the committee, comprising Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene, Assistant Leader Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Chairman Vajira Abeywardena, Deputy Chairman Navin Dissanayake and General Secretary Thalatha Athukorala for their role in revitalising the party.
He noted that the team had been tasked with transforming the UNP's image and positioning it as a modern political force ahead of future elections.
