Sri Lanka, Sept. 4 -- Highways Minister Johnston Fernando yesterday instructed officials of the Highways Ministry and the Road Development Authority to expedite the construction work of the Ruwanpura Highway, which was halted by the previous government.

The Minister was participating in a Progress Review Meeting on the road development projects held with the RDA officials at the Ministry yesterday.

He said that expediting the Ruwanpura Highway construction was vital.

The Minister said that the proposed Ruwanpura Highway will connect with the Southern Highway and the Central Expressway.

The Ruwanpura Highway will stretch over 73 km from the Kahatuduwa Interchange up to Pelmadulla.
