Sri Lanka, Sept. 19 -- Sri Lanka's javelin sensation Rumesh Tharanga finished 7th in the World Athletics Championship (WAC) final in Tokyo yesterday.

The 22-year-old, the youngest among the finalists, produced his best throw of 84.38m on his first attempt to secure 7th place, a historic milestone for Sri Lankan athletics. Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad & Tobago won gold with 87.83m, Anderson Peters of Grenada took silver with 87.38m, while bronze went to the USA's Curtis Thompson, who threw 86.67m.

Rumesh became the first Sri Lankan male athlete to reach a World Championship final, delivering the nation's best-ever performance by a male athlete at the event. This was his maiden World Championship appearance, and he finished in style. The n...
