Sri Lanka, July 28 -- In a record-breaking bust, Sri Lanka Customs' Central Intelligence Unit today (28) seized a consignment of foreign-made cigarettes worth Rs. 50 million at the Katunayake Airport's Cargo Village. The shipment, declared falsely as "towels" and "plastic cups," was en route to Australia and England via Dubai.

Customs officials confirmed that this is the largest-ever cigarette seizure in the history of Katunayake Airport and the Cargo Village.

The seized items, amounting to 2,239,400 cigarettes of the "Top Gun" and "Manchester" brands, were scheduled to be shipped to London, Sydney, and Melbourne under false declarations.
