Srilanka, May 20 -- Three women were arrested by airport customs officers at Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport on the night of May 19, after attempting to smuggle a large stock of "Kush" cannabis through the Red Channel designated for business travelers.
The suspects include a 46-year-old mother and her 18-year-old daughter from Kolonnawa, and a 56-year-old businesswoman from Wellampitiya. According to authorities, the women had purchased the 12 kilograms of Kush, valued at approximately Rs. 120 million, from Thailand and routed their travel through Chennai, India, before arriving in Sri Lanka.
The narcotics were expertly concealed in seven air conditioners and electric cooking appliances, intended to evade detection.
