Srilanka, Feb. 24 -- During the 2025 Budget speech in Parliament, Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic, and Ocean Resources Rathna Gamage emphasised the unprecedented allocation for the fisheries sector, marking a significant commitment to boosting the country's production economy.
"This is the highest allocation ever made for the fisheries industry. The Government has recognised the importance of the sector by making a significant contribution to the production economy. In 2024, Rs. 7,000 million was allocated for fisheries. However, in the 2025 Budget, this amount has been increased to Rs. 11,400 million, reflecting a 62.85% growth," the Deputy Minister stated during his speech in Parliament.
