Sri Lanka, Sept. 8 -- Royal College Colombo, led by their dashing winger Amika Samarasinghe, regained the prestigious Bradby Shield after one year, edging out Trinity College Kandy on aggregate 18-13 at the 79th edition of the two-leg series after the return leg at the Royal Sports Complex in Reid Avenue on Saturday.
Trinity pulled off a fighting 8-3 win, but Royal's first-leg 15-5 lead was enough to hand them the glittering shield before a mammoth home crowd. Both teams went flat out from the kick-off. Trinity made the first breakthrough in the 4th minute when burly prop forward Achintha Jayasena powered his way over the line. But the conversion by centre Sadeesha Weerawansa missed the mark, leaving the score at 5-0.
