Srilanka, March 6 -- The National Cancer Control Program has reported a concerning rise in cases of colorectal cancer among both the elderly and children.

During a media briefing at the Health Promotion Bureau, Dr. Srini Alahapperuma, Deputy Director of the Program, explained that the primary causes are poor lifestyle choices and a lack of physical activity.

Dr. Alahapperuma highlighted that, while colorectal cancer was relatively rare a decade ago, it has now become the third most common cancer worldwide and in Sri Lanka.

She emphasized that adopting healthier habits and leading an active lifestyle can help prevent the disease.
