Sri Lanka, Jan. 29 -- A comprehensive short-term and long-term initiative is underway to clean and restore Beira Lake, according to Urban Development, Construction, and Housing Minister Anura Karunathilaka.
As part of the immediate efforts, garbage in and around the lake will be swiftly removed. Additionally, a new pollution control technology is set to be tested and implemented based on its effectiveness.
Authorities have identified 21 sewage discharge points polluting the lake, and a joint program with the Colombo Municipal Council will be launched to eliminate them.
To ensure a sustainable solution, a task force of experts has been formed to develop long-term strategies for preserving Beira Lake's ecosystem.
