Sri Lanka, Jan. 20 -- Restoration and repair work has officially begun on the Peradeniya Kalu Palama (Yaka Bridge) following significant damage caused by recent cyclone-related incidents. The site inspection was conducted on 17th January 2026 by Deputy Minister of Transport Dr. Prasanna Gunasena, in collaboration with the Ceylon Electricity Board (CECB), the Colombo Engineering Services Limited (CESL), and the University of Peradeniya.

Engineers reported that one of the central pillars had tilted 1.5 meters horizontally against the direction of water flow, occurring at a rate of 6 millimeters per day.
