At the close of the second day of their three-day fixture at Bashundhara Sports Complex, Dhaka, Bangladesh were struggling at 107 for 6, still trailing by 106 runs.
Peiris, faced 286 balls and struck 17 fours and 2 sixes, sharing a crucial 142-run third-wicket partnership with Jason Fernando, who contributed 65 off 125 balls with 5 fours and a six. By lunch, Sri Lanka were 280 for 5, with Peiris unbeaten on 159.
