Sri Lanka, Nov. 27 -- UPDATE: Red alert issued as severe weather threatens Sri Lanka (2.46 pm)
The Meteorology Department has issued a high alert for all districts and surrounding sea areas as an active weather system continues to affect the island.
Heavy showers and strong winds are expected to persist over the coming days, with intermittent rain and thundershowers across most parts of the country.
Expected rainfall:
Very heavy rainfall above 200 mm: parts of Northern, North-Central, Central, and North-Western provinces, and Trincomalee district.
Heavy rainfall above 150 mm: Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces, Badulla, and Batticaloa districts.
Falls above 100 mm: other regions.
