Sri Lanka, June 9 -- Medical Laboratory Technologist and trade union activist Ravi Kumudesh has been suspended from duty for contesting in the 2024 General Election in violation of the Establishments Code.

A letter issued by the Director General of Health Services states that Kumudesh, employed at the National Hospital's Medical Laboratory, contested from the Colombo District without complying with regulations that prohibit certain public servants from engaging in political activity.

The suspension takes effect from October 10, 2024-the date he signed his nomination papers.

The letter further states that formal disciplinary action will follow.
