Sri Lanka, Aug. 29 -- Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe was discharged from hospital this afternoon. He had been transferred from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to a normal ward earlier in the day.

Wickremesinghe, who is currently under investigation for alleged misuse of public funds during his tenure, was granted bail by the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court last week.

He became the first Sri Lankan former head of state to be arrested, and is among several high-ranking former government and political leaders being investigated for corruption under President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
