Sri Lanka, Dec. 19 -- UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has expressed his willingness to resign from the party leadership if his role in the party is hindering the merger between the United National Party (UNP) and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).

He made this statement during the UNP Working Committee meeting on Wednesday (17) which focused on the party's future political activities.

Wickremesinghe has said that he has not yet received an official update concerning the progress of the negotiations between the two parties.
