Sri Lanka, May 17 -- A proposal to increase electricity tariffs-covering both fixed charges and unit rates-is currently under consideration, but it has not yet received approval from the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL).
According to reports, the PUCSL is expected to make a final decision on the matter during the first week of June.
The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has stated that a tariff hike of 18.3% is necessary to cover operational and generation costs.
The proposed increase, if approved, would impact all electricity consumers, sparking public concern amid already rising living costs.
