Srilanka, May 26 -- The current shortage of certain medicinal drugs have arisen because decisions on procurement were not taken in a timely and proper manner in 2024,Health and Mass Media Minister Dr.Nalinda Jayatissa said on Saturday (24).
He said that Sri Lanka imports hundreds of drugs each year, but tenders for purchasing medicines for 2025 were called for only 67 types of medicines in the first five months of 2024.
The Minister made these remarks attending an event in Colombo.
He added that tenders have now been called for 233 types of medicines, which had been stalled for years. Meanwhile, the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation completed procurement processes for 233 types of drugs in the first five months of 2025.
