Srilanka, May 29 -- Sri Lanka Railways General Manager Dhammika Jayasundara said an investigation is being conducted into the failure of about 20 train drivers to report for duty on May 25 and May 26.Of the 216 daily train services, 38 were cancelled on May 25, and 35 of them were cancelled due to train drivers taking leave, he said.
Similarly, the 15 trains that were cancelled May 26 were due to drivers taking leave.
Stating that there should be about 430 engine drivers, but currently there are only about 275 engine drivers, GM Dhammika Jayasundara said that applications have been called for the recruitment of train drivers and that it is planned to hold a competitive recruitment examination next July.
