Sri Lanka, Jan. 19 -- The Medawachchiya Divisional Secretariat has initiated an investigation into an allegation that a Secretariat employee has embezzled funds allocated as a relief allowance for low-income families receiving Aswesuma benefits.

It is alleged that this employee had diverted hundreds of thousands of rupees given as Aswesuma allowance to his accounts and had also used the names of deceased persons to embezzle monies.

Anuradhapura District Secretary, Ranjith Wimalasuriya said the Divisional Secretariat is conducting an investigation into this matter.
