Sri Lanka, Dec. 31 -- A prison inmate receiving medical treatment at the Nagoda Teaching Hospital was injured in a shooting incident early this morning (31), hospital authorities confirmed.

According to the hospital director, the incident occurred at around 6.00 a.m. in the surgical ward, where the inmate was being treated. The inmate sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

He was subsequently rushed into surgery, and further details regarding his condition are awaited.
