Sri Lanka, Nov. 12 -- Former Minister of Tourism and Aviation Prasanna Ranatunga was released on bail today (12) by the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court, following his arrest by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over alleged corruption in a state insurance deal.
Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama granted bail after considering the submissions made by CIABOC officials and the defence counsel.
Ranatunga was arrested today morning in connection with a 2021 case involving the procurement of medical insurance for employees of four institutions under the Ministry of Tourism - the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, Tourism Promotion Bureau, Hotel Management Institute, and Convention Bureau.
