Srilanka, May 6 -- Polling for Sri Lanka's Local Government Elections concluded at 4:00 PM today, following a full day of voting that began at 7:00 AM across 13,759 polling stations islandwide.

According to the Election Commission, vote counting is now underway at 5,783 designated centers. Elections are being held for 339 local government bodies, with a total of 17,156,338 eligible voters.

This election sees 75,589 candidates from various political parties and independent groups contesting, with 8,287 members set to be elected.

The vote counting process began immediately after polls closed and is expected to continue into the evening.
