Srilanka, April 16 -- Police Media Spokesperson SSP Buddhika Manatunga announced that legal action has been initiated against 800 individuals caught driving under the influence over a two-day period.

These drivers were identified during special police operations conducted on April 13 and 14 as part of New Year holiday traffic enforcement efforts. The operations targeted drunk drivers and were carried out across the island.

In addition, police also conducted island-wide operations to identify drivers under the influence of drugs.

SSP Manatunga noted that road traffic is expected to rise as people begin returning to Colombo after the New Year celebrations. He urged all motorists to avoid reckless driving and to prioritize road safety. ...
