Sri Lanka, Jan. 12 -- A foreign national who was swept away by strong sea currents off the Mirissa coast was rescued by the Police Lifeguard Unit attached to the Kotawila Police yesterday(11) afternoon.
The incident occurred when the individual, who had gone for a swim at Mirissa beach within the Kotawila Police Division, was caught in a rip current and carried out to sea.
Police lifeguards on duty at the time - Sub-Inspector Mendis, Police Sergeant 59416 Ajantha, Police Constable 96986 Dissanayake, and Police Constable 105268 Kahawatte - immediately carried out a rescue operation and safely brought the victim ashore.
