Sri Lanka, Nov. 18 -- The Irrigation Department has announced that two sluice gates of the Deduru Oya Reservoir have been opened by one foot each in response to ongoing heavy rainfall. This release will allow 1,400 cubic feet of water per second to flow downstream.

Meanwhile, the Polgolla Mahaweli Dam Executive Engineer's Office confirmed that six sluice gates of the Polgolla Reservoir were opened this morning. Each gate was raised by 18 inches, releasing a total of 9,000 cubic feet of water per second into the Victoria Reservoir.

Authorities have urged residents and communities downstream of the Polgolla Mahaweli Dam to exercise caution when using the Mahaweli River during this period.
