Sri Lanka, Dec. 19 -- Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated in Parliament today (19) that the government is taking steps to abolish the executive presidential system and establish a parliamentary system, with a President serving without executive powers.
She also confirmed that preparations are underway to hold Provincial Council elections, which have been delayed due to provisions of the Provincial Council Elections Amendment Act No. 17 of 2017.
Responding to a question from Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, the Prime Minister said a new constitution is being drafted as outlined in the government's Rich Country, Beautiful Life policy statement.
