Sri Lanka, Oct. 9 -- The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the implementation of a housing programme to provide 1,400 new homes for over 3,250 plantation families whose residences were destroyed by natural disasters, under a multi-phase resettlement plan designed to relocate affected families to safer and more secure areas, Cabinet Spokesman and Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa announced.

"The programme, which commenced in 2025, aims to construct new houses for plantation families currently living in temporary shelters.It will be implemented over the 2025 to 2027 period, with plans to build 1,400 housing units and settle the selected beneficiary families within that time frame," he said.
