Sri Lanka, Jan. 20 -- The Cabinet of Ministers has approved amendments to the pension-related provisions included in the appointment letters of public officers recruited after 1 January 2016, Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said.
Under a 2016 Budget proposal, appointment letters issued to public sector employees recruited from that date included a clause stating that their appointments were pensionable but subject to future government decisions on the applicable pension scheme. However, a new pension scheme proposed at the time has yet to be implemented.
In view of this delay, the 2026 Budget proposed changes to clarify pension entitlements for these employees by confirming their coverage under the existing pension framework. As...
