Sri Lanka, Oct. 10 -- Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath told Parliament yesterday that the Government intends to hold the long-delayed Provincial Council Elections within the next year.

"We will decide on the election once the ongoing delimitation process is completed. We will decide whether the election will be held under the proportional representation system or under a mixed system, afterwards," he said.

The Parliament can decide this," the Minister said. Minister Herath made the remarks in response to questions raised on the Provincial Elections by opposition MPs Jeevan Thondaman and S.Rasamanickam in Parliament yesterday.
