Srilanka, April 9 -- A ten-foot section of the road near the Rampart Street wall in the historic Galle Fort has collapsed, creating a sinkhole approximately five feet in diameter.

In response to the incident, authorities have temporarily closed the affected section of Rampart Street to ensure public safety.

Local residents report that signs of ground subsidence had been visible in the area prior to the collapse.

Officials are currently assessing the damage and taking necessary steps to prevent further deterioration.
