Sri Lanka, Nov. 24 -- Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said in Parliament on Saturday that the safety and security of journalists will be ensured.

He said that the housing project for journalists and artistes will be implemented in areas close to Colombo and the work will be started soon.

"We will also take steps to protect the right to information of the people and protect the freedom of the press. We will take steps to protect the professionalism of the journalists as well," he said.

The Minister said that funds have been allocated for scholarships for journalists in this Budget. It has also been decided to implement a project to provide financial assistants for journalists to buy media equipment on a concessional...
