The National Audit (Amendment) Bill which was brought yesterday in Parliament had aimed at strengthening the Auditor General's Office by giving the Auditor General the power to directly report fraud, corruption, or misappropriation to law enforcement, enabling immediate legal action, and to recommend financial penalties (surcharges) against responsible officials, Labour Minister and Economic Development Deputy Minister Anil Jayantha Fernando stated in Parliament yesterday.
