Srilanka, March 5 -- The Local Government Election which was scheduled to be held in 2022 was cancelled by the previous government on the pretext of not having funds. But we will hold it in the middle of this year in accordance with our election pledge, Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Prof. Chandana Abeyratne told Parliament yesterday.
"In 2022, the Minister in charge postponed the election by a year. When nominations were called for the election again in 2023, former President Wickremesinghe postponed the election saying that there were no funds.
