Sri Lanka, Oct. 7 -- Lack of attention paid by parents towards the behaviour of their children and also not having a peaceful environment within the household, are some of the major reasons for schoolchildren to get depression and various other mental illnesses, said Colombo North Teaching Hospital, Child Adolescent Psychiatrist, Prof. Miyuru Chandradasa.
The Professor made these remarks following a Research conducted by the University of Kelaniya and the University of Monash, Australia, on mental illness of schoolchildren.
Quoting statistic, Prof. Chandradasa said that, at least 60% of schoolchildren in Grades 10 to 13 are suffering from a state of depression and various other mental illnesses due to pressure from their studies, school...
