Sri Lanka, Oct. 7 -- The number of complaints received via the IGP's dedicated WhatsApp line for reporting illegal drugs and criminal activities has surpassed 8,000.

Police say that investigations have begun on the complaints received, and relevant cases will be forwarded to the appropriate police stations for follow-up.

The WhatsApp number, 071-8598888, was introduced by IGP Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasuriya to enable the public to quickly report crimes and other problematic situations.

However, the police noted that some submissions are not related to criminal matters and have urged the public to send only complaints relevant to police action.
