Sri Lanka, Oct. 31 -- The Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) states that there are currently around 100,000 diabetic patients with wounds in the country, Colombo National Hospital's Consultant Vascular Surgeon Prof. Rezni Cassim said.
Addressing a press conference held yesterday he said that wounds in diabetic patients are more severe than cancer. He further commented that it is rare for diabetic patients to have their feet amputated even for minor injuries. He also added that if a person loses a leg due to diabetes, there is a 30% chance that the remaining leg will also be lost within three years.
