Sri Lanka, Dec. 1 -- The Opposition staged a walkout of Parliament today (01) in protest against the ruling party's refusal to allow a full-day debate on the ongoing disaster situation.

Chief Opposition Whip Gayantha Karunatilaka announced the decision to walk out, stating, "We never agreed to close Parliament sessions at 12:30 p.m." MPs Gajendra Kumar Ponnambalam and Shanakiyan Rasamanickam also joined the walkout.

Responding to the situation, Leader of the House Bimal Rathnayake said that party leaders are allowed to speak in Parliament on the disaster situation until 12:30 p.m. He noted that some opposition parties had agreed to close the session at that time.
