Sri Lanka, Sept. 15 -- The Opposition in Parliament is contemplating taking legal action against Deputy Ministers under the Public Properties Act for using perks such as staff payments allowance, Opposition MP Dayasiri Jayasekera said today.
"The Speaker clearly said this week that Deputy Ministers do not bear responsibility to Parliament. Therefore, they should be considered as ordinary MPs. They cannot claim perks in this scenario. Therefore, we are contemplating filing legal action against them under the Public Properties Act," the MP said.
"I don't know about other Opposition MPs, but I won't accept the statements made by Deputy Ministers in Parliament anymore. I also want to request public servants not to follow instructions given...
