Sri Lanka, Dec. 17 -- Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has urged that all individuals responsible for the killing of an elephant in Seeppukulama, Mihintale be punished without exception.

In a social media statement, Premadasa described the act-where the elephant was set on fire in the Ambagaha Wewa area, Anuradhapura District-as vile, despicable, and disgraceful.

He stressed that the government, Wildlife Department, and civil society must work together to prevent such barbaric acts.

Premadasa also paid tribute to the wildlife veterinarians and officials who treated the injured elephant, emphasizing the need for the nation to condemn such cruelty.
