Sri Lanka, Aug. 28 -- Arrangements are being made for local gem miners and traders to reach international gem markets and to get a decent income for their gems by the Global Promotion International (GPI).

Under this move, the GPI has launched a new programme to further expand the local gem market system that started by providing high and fair prices for Sri Lankan gems through the "Colombo Gem Market" and to direct local gem miners and traders to the international market.

Accordingly, in addition to the Colombo gem auctions, the GPI will take steps to direct local traders' gems to world-renowned gem markets including Thailand, Singapore, Japan and the United States, CEO of GPI Dr. Thilakasiri Vitarana said.
