Srilanka, March 26 -- The government plans to develop the historic Nuwara Eliya Post Office to support the tourism industry while maintaining its postal services, according to Cabinet Media Spokesperson, Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.

Speaking at a press briefing today (26), the Minister noted that former President Ranil Wickremesinghe had previously proposed removing the post office from the Postal Department's operations and selling it.

However, the current government intends to preserve and repurpose the building.

A Supreme Court case related to the matter is still pending, and the government aims to proceed with guidance from the Tourism Board.
