Sri Lanka, Nov. 19 -- The National People's Power (NPP) secured control of the Seethawaka Pradeshiya Sabha yesterday (18), six months after the Local Government Elections.
NPP member P. K. Premerathne was subsequently appointed as the Chairman of the Seethawaka Pradeshiya Sabha.
In the last Local Government Election, no single party or independent group managed to win more than 50% of the total seats required to establish power in the council. The NPP won 23 seats, while the remaining opposition parties collectively held 24 seats.
The council first convened on June 17 to elect a chairman and deputy chairman. However, the meeting was postponed due to a crisis that arose over the selection methodology.
