Srilanka, May 8 -- Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Minister Bimal Ratnayake said that based on ongoing discussions, it is likely that NPP will be able to form several councils in both the Northern and Eastern Provinces and that they are hopeful and prepared to move forward with the strength of these results. "In the Northern Province, no party holds a majority to form a council independently. Everyone will need to seek support from others."
Speaking at a media briefing held yesterday (7), Minister Ratnayake emphasised that councils should be formed by the elected members themselves and the Government will not interfere with the process. "We will not engage in disruptive or divisive politics either." He said.
