Sri Lanka, Feb. 28 -- The trade union collective of the non-academic staff members of State universities has decided to launch a two-day token strike over several demands, including a salary hike.

However, the Education Ministry officials pointed out that necessary initiatives have already been taken in accordance with the recommendations of the committee appointed to rectify the salary anomalies of university non-academic staff.

Representative of the University Trade Union Joint Committee Dhammika Priyantha said that the collective has decided to launch a two-day token strike aiming to seek remedies for several issues they are facing.

Accordingly, the strike will be held today (28) and tomorrow.
