Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment, Arun Hemachandra, said authorities are continuing to monitor developments and gather further information regarding the incident.

The attack occurred during a Hanukkah celebration attended by around 1,000 people in a small park near the beach. Australian police reported that 16 people were killed and more than 40 others injured, including two police officers.
