Sri Lanka, Feb. 6 -- Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne told Parliament yesterday that all are equal under the law and no Minister or MP can overrule or override the law of this country.

He said that everyone should respect the law and work accordingly. A commotion ensued when MP Ramanathan Archchuna raised a privilege issue regarding his recent arrest in Anuradhapura.

The Speaker said that Police had informed him about a traffic violation involving MP Archchuna.

"We have informed Police to facilitate him for Parliamentary proceedings but also take the relevant steps if anything has been done going against the law".
