Sri Lanka, Jan. 5 -- The New Rice Festival, where the first harvest of the paddy from the fields belonging to the Sri Dalada Maligawa are brought to the Dalada Maligawa and the offerings prepared from the rice are offered to the Sacred Tooth Relic, was held on Saturday under the guidance of the Venerable Thibbatuwawe Medhankara Nayaka Thera and Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela.

Of the four major festivals held annually at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in honour of the Tooth Relic, the first of the year is the New Rice Festival. The New Year, Esala Perahera and Karthika festivals are other festivals held at the Sri Dalada Maligawa Temple in connection with the four major annual festivals.
