Sri Lanka, Feb. 9 -- Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananda Wijepala said that a decision has been taken to establish a new Police division dedicated to the investigation and prevention of cyber crimes.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the newly established Polpitiya Police Station on Friday (6), the Minister said the initiative is aimed at strengthening the country's response to the growing threat of cyber-related offences.

He pointed out that between 23 and 25 cyber crimes are reported daily, describing it as a considerable and concerning figure.
