Sri Lanka, Dec. 9 -- Thilina Madhusanka, who had been serving as the acting Basnayake Nilame of the historic Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya, was elected unopposed as the 13th Basnayake Nilame today.

The election was held at the Monaragala District Secretariat under the patronage of Commissioner for Buddhist Affairs K.M.G. Senaratne.

The term of the former Basnayake Nilame, Dishan Wickramaratne Gunasekara, ended on October 22, after which Thilina Madhusankha was appointed as acting Basnayake Nilame by the Commissioner.

In addition to his new role, Madhusankha currently serves as the Basnayake Nilame of Uthpalawarna Sri Vishnu Maha Devalaya in Devinuwara.
