Sri Lanka, Jan. 28 -- The first sessions of three pivotal parliamentary committees for the Tenth Parliament convened last week, marking the election of their new leadership.

On January 23, the Committee on Public Petitions held its inaugural meeting, during which Member of Parliament R.M. Gamini Ratnayake was unanimously elected as Chairman. His nomination was proposed by MP Manoj Rajapaksa and seconded by MP Ajith Gihan. After his election, Mr. Ratnayake expressed gratitude to the committee members and emphasized the need to expedite the petition investigation process to provide timely relief to petitioners.
